I wish I got the name of the optician who helped me with my broken glasses this morning. She was aw... esome. I am a patient of the clinic, but I was a walk-in today. I sat on my favorite pair of computer/reading glasses, and they broke. I thought for sure I was going to be stuck buying a new pair, which also meant waiting days to get them. NOT TODAY! The optician took them in the back and after a little magic, she had them back to normal. It's difficult to tell they were ever broken. THAT is reason enough for me to keep coming back. THANK YOU!!!!!

The staff was amazing and friendly. I worked in particular with Alissa, the first time I came in I a... lways had trouble finding glasses that look good on me. Alissa was very understanding and did an amazing job at finding the perfect pair for me. The two other times I have been there since then Alissa has given amazing service as with the rest of the staff. I highly recommend going here!!

I had my eyes evaluated (first time in 4 years). I could afford the frames that I liked. Amber wrote... down the name of the frames and the dimensions for me to take home. I ended up purchasing my glasses online. Once I received them my eyes could not focus. I did not know if I received the wrong prescription, I entered the Rx wrong, or if they manufactured my lenses incorrectly. I called Cottage Grove Eye Care Clinic to ask some questions. I thought that I would get some "shame" for not getting my lenses/frames with them. Amber was AMAZING! She offered some advice then offered for me to come in. She checked what I ordered, chechecked my Rx, and she checked my lenses. She was so incredibly helpful! I will continue with that clinic just because of her!

My daughters and I see Dr. Cole for our vision exams. When we walk through the doors we are greeted... with smiles and addressed by name. Dr. Cole is very nice and friendly. He is compassionate, caring, listens well, along with being dedicated and determined to help improve our vision. Additionally, Dr. Cole cares about the people in the community and about Cottage Grove, by being involved and giving back. He has served on committees, given his time and resources to organizations within the community as well. Thank you Dr. Cole and wonderful staff for taking care of us.

Senior Vision FAQs

Can presbyopia be corrected?

Presbyopia, age-related farsightedness, affects your eyes’ ability to focus on near objects. You may become aware of presbyopia once you begin holding books and newspapers at arm’s length to be able to read them. This condition is a natural part of the aging process and affects virtually all adults in their 40s. Our eye doctors will diagnose and help correct your presbyopia so you can see clearly again. They'll provide you with corrective glasses and/or contact lenses, such as monovision and multifcoals.

What are the most common vision problems in the elderly?

The most common causes of vision loss among the elderly are age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataracts and diabetic retinopathy.

  • Age-related macular degeneration is characterized by the loss of central vision.
  • Glaucoma results in visual field loss.
  • Cataracts cause blurred vision and faded colors among the elderly.
  • Diabetic retinopathy is characterized by blurred vision and floaters, among other symptoms.
  • Other conditions include dry or watery eyes and floaters.

Because many of these conditions may initially be asymptomatic, it's critical that elderly patients undergo routine eye exams. The earlier these conditions are detected, the better the treatment outcome.

Can macular degeneration be prevented?

Although there’s no sure-fire method for preventing eye disease, certain lifestyle habits can put the odds in your favor. To help ensure healthy vision for a lifetime, wear high-quality sunglasses whenever outdoors, quit smoking if you do, eat eye-healthy foods, and ask your optometrist about taking AREDS supplements. Most importantly, regular visits with your eye doctor are crucial to keeping your vision sharp throughout your golden years.
